Evaluation Question 4

This is the camera and tripod that I would have used for filming.

This it the computer which I used for the posters, magazine front covers and for the trailer. The picture on the screen is the character introductions in the trailer.

This is a picture of me editing the picture of Harry. The photo shop effect that I am applying to the picture of Harry is a slight fade.
I used a website called pyzam to find The Godfather layout that I have got on my blog. I did this because I thought it made the blog look more attractive and it fitted well with the gangster layout.

This is a picture of the mac computers that I have used for the trailer.

This is a picture of my using the imovies to make my film trailer.

These are the different sights that I have for my media work. Without using these sights I wouldn't have been able to have made any for my media work as effective as it is now.

Evaluation Question 2

Evaluation Questions 1

NHNZ

Today I worked with a professional film company called NHNZ. This is based in New Zealand and is one of the biggest contributors of the National Geographic channels, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, A & E Television Networks, Travel Channel as well as major broadcasters NHK (Japan), PBS (U.S.) and France 5. NHNZ have got close to 200 international awards including Emmy Awards and a prestigious Wildscreen Panda which made it all the more rewarding to help them.
This is a picture of the film crew at work. as you can see the equipment that they are using are for professionals. The cameras cost over £50,000 each but the quality was a massive increase in the ones that I have used. The fluffy thing the man is holding it to help with the sound so even though it was a windy day you would still be able to hear what the people were saying. this is something that would have come in handy with my filming because I had problems with the wind in the scene where 'Carl' and 'Sal' get robbed after winning the poker game.

Film Trailer

I have uploaded my film trailer and I am pleased with the way it has come out. The only thing that isn't as good as I hoped is the lighting because it is a lot darker than on the mac computers. I also made a DVD copy and they were a lot brighter than the way the trailer has come out on the blog. When you put the trailer onto full screen it is also not as clear as it was on both the mac's and the DVD.

Editing

I have edited the way the card game was shown because it was quite slow paced and dragged on a bit compared to the fast paced start. I do still have it taking up a proportion of the time because it shows the importance of the game. By changing the way the card game has been structured has made it feel faster paced and therefore more exciting.

problems with memory stick

I have been having problems uploading my film trailer to the blog because my first memory stick didn't have enough space to hold all trailer. I have got a new memory stick recently and have been having trouble what one too because it doesn't seem to be able to be used on the mac computers at school

Audience Profiling

This is the first person I am aiming my trailer towards because he will be part of my target market.
This is the second person that I am aiming my trailer to because although he is different to the first person he is still in my target audience.
This is another type of person that my gangster genre will apple to and it part of my traget audience. This is important that I know who my target audience is because if I know this then I can my my work more specific to there needs. I will use the generic conventions of gangster films to help me do this.

Editing

Today I finished the character editing. I was origionally going to have all the characters with a red background but I tested it out with different coloured backgrounds and I thought it looked a lot better with different colours. I have kept Sal and Carl the same colour because they are supposed to be the main people. I have also added them all back into the film trailer and it looks realy good.

Editing

I have decided to introduce the characters of the film like the trailer Snatch. The way they have paused on the characters and there name comes up with a different coloured background looks really professional and I will try and incorporate it into my trailer. I have had a go at it today and I have added an effect to the character in photo shop. Here is an example of the designs that I have done so far.

To get this design I have to turn the action into a still frame and then copy it into photo shop. I then had to cut the person out of the picture and then paste it into a new slide. I then added different special effects to the characters. as you can see 'Carl' have been taken from the still frame and then cut out. I think the gradient background looks a lot better than the normal one colour.

Editing

Though I am happy with the shots I have used in trailer I feel that it seems more like a film opening to a film than a film trailer so I have made a few changes. I have added film institutions at the start of the trailer to show who it was made like real trailers would have. For this I have made up my film institutions as SCAR Films like SKA films that made Lock Stock and Two smoking Barrels. I have also made another intuitions called Stuart Pictures. This is because most films have two institutions in the making of their film. To do this I had to make the title of the film on photo shop and then import it into imovie to be able to incorporate it in my trailer. As you can see I have added pictures to the title to make them stand out and look more professional.

changes

I had to make some changes to my magazine front cover, all collectors addition front covers and poster because they had pictures on that I was not allowed to have. I origionally had the Empire logo on my magazine front cover. I only recently found out that I was not allowed to have it on so I made my own magazine title called Filmic. I also had SKA films logo on my poster which I had to take off as well.

collectors addition

I thought it would be a good idea to make a collectors addition of the characters on empire magazine. I have got this idea from the Star Wars collectors addition. Here are a few of the covers that they maded in their collectors adition.

Here are the ones I have made. I put the two main characters in different colours for the background so they stand out form the people.

poster

This is the poster that I have designed. The steps that I have taken to get this poster are to decide the background colour and to add a few pictures.

The second step was to get the title finished. I then decided to make the people in black and white to give the effect that they are the villains. Also having them in the black part of the background highlights this.

I then added the final pictures and decided to keep the two main people in colour to highlight the fact that they are the people that you are supposed to like.

I then added the date of the film release and the writing at the bottom to say about all the people involved in the making of the film. I did this in the style of the real posters by having the smaller and bigger texts.
This is the posters that inspired me the most using the simple red, white and black colour scheme. They are all very simple designs with black being the main clour. I was going to have the background black like these posters but I thought it looked to simlar to the magazine front cover that I have designed. They are also mainly black and white pictures which I have incororated in my poster and I have left the main characters in colour because as you can see the goodfellas characters stand out well in colour

magazine front cover

This is the steps I took to make my magazine front cover. The first step I took was to get decide what the three colours is was going to use were. I thought that black, red and white were the best colours because most gangster films incorporate these colours. The gangster films that usually incorporate these films are normally American Gangster films.
Step two was to make the box on the right for other films or interviews that are going to be included in the magazine

Step three was to add some of the pictures and I changed the title because I didn't think that it looked as good as the new font
step four was to add the final pictures and change the layout slightly

poster

I can't decide weather to have the characters in black and white or to have them in colour.

magazine cover

The magazine that I have decided to base my magazine front cover on is Empire. I have chosen Empire because they have they style that I am going for in my front cover. they have used the three colour rule very effectively with the red white and black. these aer the three colours that I am planning to use. The colours used in these two covers make very effective and eye catching front covers. I think that the three colours work well and fit in with the gangster theme. the positioning of the camera is a low angle shot to make the people look more powerful. this helps transmit the narrative to the audience because they can see they they are powerful people who look aggressive. gangster films sometimes also have the actors holding guns to highlight this point. We usually only see a few of the main people in the American compared to the British Gangster films having a lot of people from little gangs. There is a gender bias towards males because males are shown mainly because they are more associated with guns and violence. also males have a better visual effect because they are bigger and more muscular so you think that you wouldn't want to mess with them where as you wouldn't be as scared if it were to be a women.
